Innovation, Engagement, and Impact

Engagement, innovation, and impact have been key elements in the development of MSB. By strategically starting with an executive MBA program, engagement with the corporate ecosystem has played a vital role. Moreover, the positioning of the school centered on North American pedagogy has brought a real innovative approach to learning. This has led to a direct impact on the development of the corporate ecosystem involved.

With the school's growth, the Executive Education department and the Innovation Hub make sure the school has the required support structures to engage efficiently with the wider community it interacts with.  With tailored training programs, a series of conferences and roundtables, scholarship opportunities, research programs and a vibrant student life, the school continuously monitors and adapts the support structures to serve its wider stakeholder community.

Innovation continuously plays a vital role in the school's development. In line with its mission, the Teaching and Learning Center provides the required resources for faculty to bring innovation in the classroom. Moreover, the innovation hub ensures that the school leverages on its different units to create synergies and support innovative ventures through the incubator and research development.

The impact of the innovation hub extends beyond individual startups to the broader community. By fostering synergies among career services, including alumni associations, executive education, and the research center, the innovation hub leverages the university's extensive network and expertise. This collaborative approach has facilitated the creation of new ventures and startups. The incubator's success in translating academic research into practical applications underscores its role in promoting innovation and supporting sustainable economic development in the region. These efforts, coupled with initiatives such as the Green Campus project and the promotion of ethical behavior and sustainability, highlight MSB's emphasis on innovation, impact, and societal engagement.

The SMU Foundation plays an important role in catalyzing and streamlining our efforts to achieve the defined societal impact aspirations. MSB's commitment to societal impact is evident through various initiatives focusing on diversity, sustainability, responsible consumption, health, wellbeing, and employability. In terms of promotion and support of Tunisian talent through the funding of student scholarships, raising research funds, as well contributing to employability and entrepreneurship initiatives. Since 2019, MSB has adopted the UN SDG and progressively implemented metrics to assess its societal impact in all school’s activities.

Experiential Learning and Business Challenges

With a clear focus on experiential learning, MSB offers a variety of bootcamps to its learners such as, but not limited to, Team Building, Business Games, Entrepreneurs of the Future (EoF) across programs. EoF is an ideation camp offered to all freshman students. It aims to train students in ideation and business modeling to identify a successful idea that solves a societal problem. The social challenge is defined at the beginning of the program. At the end, teams pitch their ideas in front of a jury of experts and the best projects are rewarded.

Another example is Solidarity and Diversity Beyond Borders (SDBB), an undergraduate core course and aims at tackling socially engaging community challenges. The first edition of this challenge looked into poverty and women empowerment. It included a site visit to Sejnane, a small commune in Northern Tunisia known for pottery skills (https://ich.unesco.org/en/RL/pottery-skills-of-the-women-of-sejnane-01406 ). Students identify a public policy or shape a campaign that would help solve this challenge such as empowering the women-potters of Sejnane.
